The Bio Mechanix Leads an
Evidence-based Triangle Model of Care
The Triangle Model
The evidence is clear. When treating any musculoskeletal condition, to achieve the best results, attention is afforded to the joints, muscles, and functional movement patterns. As body parts are connected and function together, it is clinically significant to approach pain and dysfunction regionally and globally. For example, a shoulder maybe symptomatic, however the pain and dysfunction may be due to poor movement patterns elsewhere in the body. Further Lifestyle habits play a significant role in our health function and at times, they may even be the causal factor to one’s pain and dysfunction. All these factors need consideration in achieving the best result.
Measurement System
At The Bio Mechanix we use the Spinal/Joint Health Assessment and the Movement Assessment in our case history and examination to measure and assess all conditions our clients present with. An evidence-based report is delivered and a specifically tailored program is recommended which is based on the clinical assessments. We reassess detailing improvements in the measurements and findings. We offer a unique online program offering home advice and self-help tools to aid in your improvement.
A Multidisciplinary Integrated Approach
Lastly our approach is multidisciplinary and integrated. Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Sports Therapists and Massage Therapists all work together in a patient-centred approach. As a client, you will be seen by a clinical director who has experience and knowledge in your condition. The Director works with their respective team of practitioners and therapists in achieving the best outcomes and results.
The spine is a collection of joints forming the body’s central support structure. It supports and provides stability to various moving parts of the musculoskeletal system. It houses and protects the spinal cord, which together with the brain, makes up the central nervous system. The nervous system is the major controlling and regulatory system in the body. To keep the spine functional and healthly is to keep the nervous system functioning and healthy. Further, the spine helps us sit, stand, walk, twist and bend. Our spinal health is therefore vital to the overall function and health of the human body. The spinal joints and other joints like the wrist, ankle, shoulder etc can become restricted, stiff, inflamed and compressed resulting in pain and dysfunction.
The function of the spine and every joint in the body is movement. We aim to improve your spinal/joint health through the application of gentle specific adjustment and mobilisation techniques.
The predominant function of the muscular system is contractibility. Muscles, attached to bones or internal organs and blood vessels, are responsible for movement. Nearly all movement in the body is the result of muscle contraction. It permits movement of the body, maintains posture, and stability. Muscles can become tight and inflamed when they do not function correctly. Muscles can also “switch off” or not activate due to poor functional movement and posture.
We aim to improve your muscular health and function through the application of soft tissue techniques, stretch therapy, exercise therapy and improved functional movement. Soft tissue techniques include trigger point therapy, active muscle release, acupuncture, deep tissue massage and correct use of foam rollers, spikey balls, lacrosse balls, medicine balls, swiss balls, resistance bands, exercise bands, dumbbells and kettle bells.
Functional Movement is the ability to move the body with proper muscle and joint function for effortless, pain-free movement. Learning how to be bio-mechanically efficient with everything you do, whether it’s for sports and athletics, general fitness, or daily life activities, is very important for maintaining good health and avoiding injury.
You would think that automatically our bodies would just work well but this is generally not the case. From birth, we begin to develop dominant and weaker muscles. Lack of physical activity can increase poor muscle use habits, and any injury or accident can further limit the body’s ability to develop in a well-balanced manner.
If we repeatedly move our body with bad posture, or poor body mechanics, our joints don’t have enough space for our bones to move freely, and the muscles that should be moving our bones can’t fire effectively creating limitations in our range of motion, and muscle imbalances which in time can lead to injury. Not only can our poor functional movement habits lead to injuries, but the body will accept these muscle habits as the way to always move.
We aim to improve your functional movement through the application of gentle but targeted corrective movement patterns, specifically and globally. We use therabands, exercise bands, cables, dumbbells and kettlebells to correct and strengthen functional movement patterns.
